does knovigator undermine the need for the zettelkasten?

the key for the old zettelkasten lay in distinguishing between "fleeting notes" and "permanent notes" – shallow and deep.

Fleeting notes are not integrated into the zettelkasten. Permanent notes are and are articulated as specific additions to the notes already in the zettelkasten.

something I am absolving here is the object orientation. There is no difference between the structure note and the notes. Structures emerge from the notes.

Does there need to be a distinction between fleeting and permanent then?

just always have a knov window open and cross reference what you are writing in the draft window (whether that is also knov or word or whatever text editor) and an open knov search.

Knovigator is becomes an conversation partner. Past versions of yourself (and future versions waiting to emerge?).

Knovigator does not need to be an object to be drafted or refined– it's power is expansion, multi-directionality.

The utility of knovigator, said otherwise, is not in the linking (direct linking), but in the search. Search and re-search everything over again.

I've been too bound to the habit of linking names of files, and now I'm wondering how helpful that constraint is.

On the other end of the spectrum, having to search for things in other peoples words (ideas and notes that have not been processed or associated with my own concepts) leaves them in their domains. Linking is a manual way of externalizing the complex process of integrating someone else's thought into your own conceptual networks – which is a convoluted way to describe "writing."

So.... maybe that process takes place in the drafting of threads anyways.

But threads and searches means that you can iterate on these inch by inch instead of getting it right and putting it in the right place the first time.
