Remember Chapter 10 (Privacy) of the Bitcoin whitepaper: Identity is not on-chain; it's a system firewall. Of course, each platform can associate an identity with a particular Bitcoin address, but it will never know all the payment or ordinal addresses a person has. In 3D ordi, you can not only change your username, but you can also change the main ordinal address linked to that user whenever you want in the address book (by connecting a different wallet and adding it to the address book). We only keep the primary public ordinal and payment addresses for each user; the rest are private in your address book, but you can choose what to show to the public associated with your username. I hope this explanation isn't too confusing, but you'll understand with practice.

You can customize the displayed name and username, they are different, the username is like the X handle and the display name is your personal or artistic name.
