Illusion creeps in with any attempt to find the truth. That's why you need a method to reduce it that will converge on the truth. Just because nothing is absolutely certain does not mean that there are not degrees of certainty.

History is not just a story we tell each other. The subject is a social science, it relies on empirical research and deductive reasoning.

the Book of Mormon is simply a history of the ancient americans. the only way you would know of it was true or false is to read it. if you havent read it, then you know nothing about it.

what has been our history on Columbus? what they taught in school was that he was a hero and discovered America first. but he didn't discover america. people were already there. and he massacred them. so we pick and choose what we want to believe.

I'm not an american, but the fact that he didn't discover america is a well known fact. The story you know of Columbus is more state propaganda than part of history.
