What is knovigator?

Comment on everything. Thread everything.

I'll do screen caps to demonstrate how to do some basic functions. !todox

I can also incorporate videos that helped me learn how to use knovigator.

how did the game go?

It is hard to parse student data. As an instructor it worked out great! student data is mixed but it is hard to parse a lot of that data given:

one:

i don't hear from most students. an overwhelming majority of feedback comes from students who are having problems which is the case for any class format and is usually correlated to other dynamics as well not directly related to the class format itself. (one example: I failed the class because the teacher didn't teach me)

Two:

It's been a complicated year which already makes the data hard to parse, but the circumstances of students opting for the class were not necessarily voluntary. This dramatically affects the dynamic. Though I eventually learned from many of the quieter students (who were also taking the class in other countries) that this asynchronous format was exactly why they took the class. Definitely made it more accessible to more students.

Three:

My class is a semi-required class meaning that students feel forced to take it and any friction they might encounter is usually taken as a negative rather than a learning opportunity. This class was actually a much simplified version but interacting with a new interface definitely provided a different kind of friction for some (as does thinking about the course nonlinearly or asynchronously). My classes also challenge students to take more agency over what they learn. I expect less but I expect more accountability. These factors are necessary frictions for learning and critical thinking but in this case they amounted to reasons not to fully engage.

So I saw a TON of potential. We had some fun, but overwhelming the potential was missed out on for the reasons above. And I really don't blame students for that either... because of the reasons above.

I learned a lot and would do it again. Maybe with a more open-ended subject and class structure.
