and this doesn't even take into account that solar panels & wind turbines are not even used most of the time. Wind turbines in germany are generating only ~1% of the time

Yes, most solar panel investments are underwater for many decades, but look at it from another perspective.

In a SHTF situation solar panels mean you have access to valuable electricity and others don’t. Solar panels are a black swan investment.

They are a waste if they think they will be able to distribute power widely with them. they can be good for personal use. we own an off-grid cabin no electric for miles. we added 1 panel and now can pump water from the lake to the cabin. simple necessity

I bought a house that had panels installed already. They help a little with the bill, not a lot. I'd rather they generated BSV micropayments to me from the power company instead of reducing the fiat bill.

Solar panels are 3-5 years away from being the cheapest way to make electricity even with the batteries needed to store energy overnight. In a lot of places they are already the cheapest energy. Still, thorium FTW lol

thinking more about the solar thing. we need all our appliances to be made with DC current instead of AC then i think we can use solar much better. they screwed us by making all infrastructure AC powered. Solor converts directly to DC.
