Also I watched an interview with investigative journo Whitney Webb who pointed out who all the guys driving AI are. It has made me think twice about engaging AI with such open arms.

It’s a long interview covering a few topics in a general way. https://youtu.be/rYyTyXpdQRI?si=djegEJ4pK8N7tbfg But for more dense details you can go to her website www.unlimitedhangout.com. She has a team that does unprecedented investigative journalism that shows another side to Silicon Valley. She did the most extensive research about Epstein and wrote several in depth articles and a book about it.

yea, im familiar with her work at a very high level... I think she is uncovering difficult truths

Mudfun ·

yes to say the least. I think I'm at that high level too.

metamitya ·

part of my motivation for treechat is to create a social network whose incentives cause the truth to emerge... we're about 1% there but that is where im working to end up

Mudfun ·

So what would you say to Whitney’s fears about ai currently being in the wrong hands?

metamitya ·

I think AI and crypto are tools, and I think Whitney is too down on both of them... I think they will def be abused, but I also think they will do a lot of good in the right hands, and overall will benefit humanity tremendously

metamitya ·

I also think blockchains can mitigate a lot of the harms AI could cause by establishing provenance and enforcing scarcity in a world of effortless content creation

i think Whitney’s job is to keep us aware of a certain element of humanity that we would prefer/ would be nicer- to think does not exist. Rafael LaVerde says there is a civil war going on in crypto between two different perspectives and that lines up with what I saw happening in Silicon Valley - the industrialisation/ corporatisation of computer technology. And I agree that we must trust that good will eventually prevail. Tell me why scarcity is good. I understand why abundance is good. And I see why scarcity is bad. Are we talking about the same thing? I see that industry has made scarce the skills and instincts to provide a feeling and reality of abundance - it has made scarce the fun dances that find food and dance superior shelter walks into existence. And I see this scarcity as the root of what I would call modern slavery and a blindness that goes with it. Do you mean a scarcity of confusion - as in less confusion?

The fun dances that dance superior shelter walls into existence - by superior I mean both superior creation process and also superior in terms of performance - created in a way that is pleasing to the soul , (fun for all ages) and in terms of performance - superior air quality, (optimal humidity and ionic charge and clean - no VOCs.) superior comfortability, regulation of air temperature, a cosy natural feeling, more durable. And holding the promise of no bills- free from feeding global legacy finance systems.
