I've been listening to The Expanse series on Audible for the past few months. I'm on book 6, Babylon's Ashes.
This thread serves as my review thus far, and a recommendation for others to read or listen to the series.

This series is extremely good.
My only complaint is that there are too many PoVs that the author(s) (James S. A. Corey is a joint pen name for two authors,) bounce between at this point.
With that being said, the story is deep and very well constructed.
The characters act and arc in realistic/believable ways, the conflict(s) are varied between books but all naturally follow each other from the culture, technology, and historical events within the fictional framework.
While the overarching genre is, without a doubt, science fiction, there are aspects of the story that reach out well beyond typical science fiction fare.
There are aspects of politics, philosophy, military tactics, racial tensions, survival, etc.
But most importantly, in my experience so far, all payoffs in the story feel well earned and neither over or underplayed. There is balance and maturity in the presentation.
Very little of what happens is what I would call 'predictable,' though the broad movements certainly aren't that surprising. At least, every reveal is surprising on some level, usually in the specifics of how it comes about.
On the whole, I am very happy with this series, and am excited to continue listening to it.
