I've been digging classical music recently. Much better than modern music by a long shot.

well it's not like nothing good's been written lately, lots of awesome developments in modern classical ... i think by "modern music" you must mean, like, rock'n'roll

Once I learned the Lindy Effect I realized my time I realized my time would be better spent looking to the greats from the past for inspiration and education.

Twetch ·

What's the Lindy effect?

Twetch ·

Lindy Effect was referenced in Taleb's works "Antifragile" and "The Black Swan". Observation by actors in NYC that if a show has been successful for 1 or 2 years already, it will probably survive for another 1-2 years. Read / Watch / Enjoy the Classics!

Anything post-1950s I would say

Twetch ·

Yeah it's more generally applicable though. It's basically the longer an idea or tech has been around the more likely it is to have a longer life expectancy into the future.

Twetch ·

well what do you think of Steve Reich though for instance? or John Cage?

Twetch ·

I know not of whomst you speak.

Twetch ·

oh well you should check them out, important composers of the modern age

i've been learning the past couple of weeks about "Spectralism" or "Spectral music", i don't understand it yet but it's amazing giant complex tapestries with lots of feeling and flow

Twetch ·

Will do. I recommend you check out:

1. Chopin
2. Debussy
3. Bach

Twetch ·

Being honest, these names make me think of alcohol...

Twetch ·

Lol. Yeah Chopin is also a brand of vodka. But also a brilliant composer.

Twetch ·

I might be drinking right now 🤫

Twetch ·

Check out arvo pärt. Fratres and spiegel im spiegel especially.

Twetch ·

seconded! arvo part is fantastic, very deep emotions

chopin's good too, i dig chopin, kinda funny as a recommendation though lol i'm not from mars XD

Chopin is like noodles. You can eat/listen it everyday without it becoming irretating.
