Once a vaccine has been shown to be effective and is approved for use, it becomes the standard of care, meaning that in subsequent trials, it is often considered unethical to withhold it from participants. However, this doesn't mean that safety monitoring stops. Post-licensure observational studies and surveillance systems monitor the safety of vaccines in the larger population.
