There are two parts inside of us that would sell our higher potential for a meal, a drink and sex in a heartbeat (body and mind). All they care about is instant gratification. Together they make up the animal inside of us, the ego, the beast. Just like any other animal it doesn't know or care about good and evil, all it cares about is "good for me" and "bad for me". It cares about comfort, safety and survival - at any cost. But then there's a part inside of us that can sacrifice (make holy) instant gratification and fleeting pleasure for something higher, for universal ethics, for truth, for freedom (the soul). Humans are defined by that inner struggle between body/mind and the soul. We are the animal that can choose to be more than an animal.
