There are two different kinds of pain:
1. Fresh pain
2. Stored pain
When working with pain as a way to grow, stored pain is the one to go for.
Stored pain is trauma and fear stored in the muscles (especially in the hips).
Feeling this pain releases it.

Fresh pain, for lack of a better word,
is incoming pain when it is felt.
It enters the system.
Stored pain is felt as it is finally leaving the body, bringing the chronically tense 'zombie muscle' back to life.
It leaves the system.

Prolonged sitting in 'cow face posture' is a very effective way to release stored pain from the hips and revive muscles that have been in a state of chronic tension to the point of almost being dead (hence the term 'zombie muscle')

Depending on the duration this will become intensely painfull and can bring the practitioner to a breaking point very quickly
To voluntarily go over that breaking point and to keep going when it is impossible to go on, is an extremely powerful experience.

All religions know about this, be it kneeling for long periods of time in the christian tradition of monks and mystics or self mortification of hindus etc. but the difference is that those techniques create new pain to overcome instead of ths stored pain

Stress positions, as the military calls them, are probably the safest way to experience and release tremendous amounts of pain
Obviously this is not for everyone.
But everyone would be well advised to sometimes endure pain without reacting with avoidance

To never really face and endure great pain means to always live in boundaries set by pain nd fear.
The automatic avoidance of pain is important, but it is also important to sometimes break the program and really feel it
It is a very liberating experience
