twitter is just a place where people stroke famous people,, like i just said something & then Kurt just responded "True" so then someone just came by & liked ONLY KURT'S TWEET,, like, they only like the fact that Kurt thought it was "True" & not the actual thing i said that was true??! LOL,,,, if you're famous or powerful in any way then twitter is a place where you get likes for breathing & if you're a nobody then it's a place where you get shit on & ignored no matter how good your arguments or presentation

that's why i have basically a bad feeling long-term about the ability of upvaluing to create good meta-information, i think it'll MOSTLY reflect who likes who & who has power & so forth, & the 1% or w/e of people actually responding to whether things are relevant or important outside of who said them will get absolutely lost in that noise
i don't structure my twitter behavior around getting likes, since they're not actually worth anything,, if i was profiting from likes & so i wanted to increase them, i would NOT try to increase the relevance or quality of my content,,, i'd try to get a bunch of people following me who agree w/ me & then tell them something they want to hear, throw red meat, that's so much the winning strategy that it's just silly to even consider the high-quality content getting the attention of discriminating curators route, nuh-uh no way
people who think about whether your thing makes sense before liking it & withhold likes even from people they generally like if something doesn't contribute to a conversation are (A) incredibly rare & (B) pretty stingy even if you encounter one, i mean, we're talking about how they THINK ABOUT WHY NOT to like/tip you
if you sort content by what's most liked/tipped the signal is almost entirely from people who like/tip easily, & it's almost all them just being friendly & generous to the people they like, so it's just a flow of likes/tips to the most popular people just for existing & all sorts of content that's mediocre to awful gets a zillion likes/tips just b/c people are hanging out & not in a critical mood
what if the people upvaluing after you rewarded you so that you were guessing at the schelling point of what others find valuable? so basically not a tip system but an investment system?
i think that helps in practice, when i've seen people using systems like that, but i'm not sure it's actually b/c of the returns!?! like it's getting to the point of informational overload when you have a bunch of things in your transactions like, you got $0.00001 b/c you upvoted something a while back, nobody's actually processing that & getting motivated each micropayment worth!?! but the IDEA that that's the motivation structure changes people's behavior if you TELL THEM that's how they should be motivated XD
