Creating a tool for altruistic tipping is not a change to the incentive model, but a method to take 5% off the tip value, stealing from the socialistic tendencies of their users.

So they are taking their cut of the "tip" as a fee like a payment processor would?
I'd be very surprised if they didn't, but I don't have specific knowledge of their plans.
The fact is, Twitter *can't* adapt how they need to in order to stay relevant in a Twetch world. They'd need to do something new, or offend their entire userbase.
