Truth is the first victim of war in general, and of the culture war in particular. Both sides have no interest in truth. Ideologies are never about truth. They are chosen for much less lofty reasons than truth. The biggest ones being convenience and a hope for advantages. We choose Ideologies because we think they will profit us, not because we think they are true. Once we have chosen them, of course, we are sure they are true and get mad when confronted with inherent contradictions.

I think it's just what collectivism and politics in general is about: redistribution of resources in exchange for power. Give us central control and we give you someone else's stuff. Both sides are commies.
