Trump won’t let Bitcoin challenge the USD. It’s all about power. He wants absolute power.

No Government will allow Bitcoin to challenge their national currency!
Good thing BSV isn't trying to compete with fiat then 😉
It just provides them with a more efficient method of transferring fiat. For now!!

The "Bitcoin vs USD" rhetoric is lazy thinking.

Twetch ·

A strong USD is good for BitCoin, BitCoin can make USD stronger. BitCoin does not directly compete with the USD, BitCoin doesn't stop US trade policy, or bond issuance.

Twetch ·

It’s about free trade versus power to block trading. US has absolute power over trade via the USD because commodities are denominated in the USD. But Bitcoin will remove that power in time thankfully.

Twetch ·

Bitcoin removes the power of the US to police the world unilaterally such as with China, Russia, Venezuela, Iran, etc. Nations are getting fed up and looking for alternative denominations to the USD to trade.

Twetch ·

he *wouldnt just attack for no reason

Twetch ·

Commodities being denominated in USD might change in time but Bitcoin will never stop a Government from being able to block trade with certain Nations. What makes you think that it will?

Twetch ·

Bitcoin allows to bypass the block. Why do you think Trump is so pissed off with Bitcoin? The threat of the bypass. He would just attack something for no reason. He’s concerned with losing that blocking power.

Twetch ·

Bitcoin in a sense is its own nation. it can subsume all nations wealth. If all nations trade in Bitcoin, one powerful nation of Bitcoin without a leader emerges.

Twetch ·

You are disregarding Law! It is irrelevant what denomination a trade is conducted in if it has been legislated as illegal.
It is illegal for me to buy many things irrelevant of what I use to pay for them. Paying in Bitcoin doesn't bypass law!

Twetch ·

Who’s saying what’s illegal? That’s at the root of it. If US says it’s illegal to trade with Germany is it illegal? I’m NOT discussing trade within a nation. discussing BETWEEN nations. who has the right to tell sovereign nations what to do unilaterally?

Twetch ·

Bitcoin will not remove that power. The power comes from economic strength. Do you seriously think that nations will risk trade with USA just so they can trade with Iran or Russia? Seriously. Now remember the GDP of Texas is bigger than Russia.

Twetch ·

One country or rather one person can say it’s illegal to trade with Germany even if 1000 other countries disagree. Bitcoin will remove that power.

Twetch ·

So one country or one person can deem what’s illegal for the entire world to do? I’m saying no. And I’m saying Bitcoin will fix that problem.

Twetch ·

If an elected Government deem it illegal to trade with a nation, or set of industries within that nation, then it's illegal. Sometimes there are good reasons for sanctions being placed against nations. Trade must be beneficial to both parties.

Twetch ·

We cannot have a single tyrant saying what’s illegal for the world to do. Bitcoin will remove that power. But it will take a fight.

Twetch ·

And that’s why that one person doesn’t like it.

Twetch ·

If countries hold bitcoin instead of USD to trade, that removes the US power to sanction their institutions that need to trade in USD. But I enjoy the discussion

Twetch ·

Why are sanctioned countries looking for alternatives to the USD to trade? It’s not only the economic power, it’s the sanctioning power of financial institutions. EU has larger GDP but defers to US. If you don’t trade in USD, US can’t freeze your accounts

Twetch ·

They already have alternatives. Gold, cash, bi-lateral currency agreements etc. Trading using other methods doesn't stop US from sanctioning or pressuring other nations to sanction, rightly or wrongly. Assets can be seized. Arrests can be made.
