Today I start building a new piece of software for analysing a particular kind of sequencing technology output. I'm pretty excited. Might lead to another patent. I wonder if twetch could be used as evidence? a log of events you can't alter after the fact.

There could be concerns of public disclosure if the logs are plain text, making a patent less viable.
Encrypted data (or hash of a working document) would be more flexible and just as provable in terms of timeline.
Indeed. Hash of document versions would be pretty cool. Cloud is all well and good, until they aren't.
