The deer will eat all their new leaves so I try and scare them away at night with lights and random sounds. (Pie plate on string on the fence.)
The severe drought is really the biggest problem. I think I’m going to encircle these new one this year with a soaker hose on a timer so they get watered regularly even if I forget. we have a well that we put in when we moved here so I have water for the animals (cows, sheep, pigs, and also the deer and other wild critters) . We also put in sprinklers for the pastures but someone has to turn them on and off by hand.
