Thinking about the time I was waiting for a lift here in Berlin with my son. A lady and her two kids were also waiting and we started speaking. She in short order told me about how she’s on her own here in Berlin with the kids, but that it works out great because her husband is doing well in Turkey and she gets benefits for the family here in Germany. She was super chuffed with this, while I’m in utter amazement at how blasé she was about it all. In South Africa we would say the person had no no “skaam”, it’s in essence like saying no shame.
