I think Dune, more than any other contemporary work, is absolutely part of the western canon, and I truly can’t imagine what kind of perspective you’d have without reading it

The movie is great, but requires a little bit of an ironic viewing. Frank Herbert did a great article about the movie in a collection of short stories. “Never forget that film is a business”
