Do you think it would be cool to have e-books on Bitcoin that you can buy directly from publishers and open them using kindle-like devices? Your notes and highlights saved privately on-chain, you can give/sell the "used"book to someone else, etc, etc...

These types of applications for digital goods are being built.
Specifically? No one. But the tokenization of digital creations and the ability to trade them is being worked on by several groups. The markup features you've described already exist in unchained readers. What's the best opensource reader that you've used?

I don't think they exist on any opensource readers like Calibre. They don't use tokenised scarce copyright protected transferable books stored on chain.
And when I referred to Kindle, I meant the hardware, I love using kindle paperwhite to read books.
