The only thing I am seeing about giveaways is that some people are annoyed with them.
Why?
Because I don't follow people who are into giveaways.
It's too much noise for me. Not worth my time. So, I prevent them from wasting my time.

It’s more so how pervasive they can be, taking up entire blocks of the feed, even Kurt branched a giveaway. Also there was a giveaway that was ‘canceled’ by the OP but is still being branched and trending, basically a money grab.
I don’t participate in them, but those posts take away from everyone by diverting traffic to them. It’s in everyone’s incentive to try and stop these noob traps
It's called the cold shoulder...
Stop giving it attention, period.
Use the following feature purposefully. Signal:noise.
So should I unfollow @292 (Happy bday btw) because he infected my following feed?
Unfortunately the answer isn’t solely about me not giving giveaways attention
I dare you to! I have the most valuable giveaways on twetch!
Right. That's why Follow and Mute are useful features.
Before the follow feature was introduced I had to create my own workaround solution to get around the noise.
On Twetch, your attention is valuable to you.
On Twitter, your attention is valuable to others.
Stop wasting your attention. Unfollow those who waste your attention, or who try to co-opt the value of your attention.
Learn to take your own values seriously.
They are an attack vector. It's like being annoyed with a thief stealing change out of neighborhood cars. Maybe putting up a poster reminding people to lock their doors doesn't hurt. Also possible it does nothing lol
I like using the latest and top feeds more than the following feed.
Apart from giveaway posts and the odd BSV beggers, I find there isn't much noise, a lot of what I see is informative or inspires me to follow new folks.
Hopefully something like this will curb them:

Then you aren't using the following feature very well...
I use it for folks that have made valuable contributions to what I read here on Twetch. A feature I will use more as time goes on.
We are in early stages under 10k, the latest feed still allows me not to miss out on any hidden gems of useful information.
Interesting idea, sounds like a lot to run it in practice though
Just stop wasting your attention on them.
Stop interacting, and punish those who do with your inattention. Then, reward those who create valuable content.
Exactly.
Curate your own feed.
Reputation and cost paid are both relevant, but of these, reputation is most powerful. It's also more difficult to guide. Purposeful, mindful actions are required.
I do that too :) No branches, no likes, no follows.
Many are following what they see and not trying to scam. They are new here don't know better. I have friends and family here like that and assume there are others. Low effort, high payout.
Yes... People need to learn what is or is not actually valuable... Hence why I'm engaging in this thread.
You must have a lot more time on your hands than I do.
I agree with you... But I'm also making a very deliberate point.
In order to get where you have in this response, you have had to actively, purposefully weigh the issue on some level.
And that is the solution to all of this.
Imma let you finish, but my posts are free to read, and always will be if I have any choice in the matter, except to those who annoy me, and my posts are valuable AF.
From the original post I was just explaining why personally I’m annoyed with giveaways, and I agree that thinking is the best counter to all this.
I’m of fan of how @888 put it, because it is helpful to plant the seed and knowledge is power.
