The thing about a safety record is that it means little, as any bios/software update could change their internal rules dramatically. Having your robot hacked into would definitely be a concern.

Introduce some "predetermined braking point" into the hardware and/or sceleton itself which is easy and cheap to replace if triggered by accident.
So i.e.
My idea in The Bitcoin Singularity is that all the AI you utilise is logged into and funded by your wallet, so if you defund/move funds out of the wallet, the AI stops. I think one day, this will be needed as a kill switch and protection against hacking.
