The term "power" in the English language is too broad for many uses, which is very unfortunate. It has both positive and negative connotations. It spans from strength to control. But strength and control are in no way synonyms. In fact, someone who is truly strong doesn't seek control. It's the week who want control to deal with their fear and cowardice. When we are talking about political power (the privilege to violate individual rights with impunity), it makes more sense to not speak of power at all and instead just call it what it is: control. True power is the opposite of control. The more powerful you are, the less you are interested in control.
