the problem is that the systems which do this can win a war against systems that dont... and until this changes, or at least the perception of this changes, game theory will force every "player" to coordinate in ways that allow them to survive

There is certainly truth in the idea that you must fight fire with fire. But only in the material realm. Seen from the spiritual side of things, evil wins not by murdering you, but by scaring you into becoming evil yourself. I'd rather die defending individual rights against collectivism than becoming a collectivist (be it communist or fascist). I'd rather be murdered by evil than recruited by it.
