Not too long ago you didn't have to ask yourself what to work on. You would probably be born in a farm or small village and work was abondant and obvious if you wanted to survive.

As society becomes more complex, it becomes more and more complicated to see what you should work on to be useful to society and earn a living for yourself.

That's why the task of understanding what people should work on was delegated to entrepreneurs & investors, people who had proven to have more ability to solve that problem and had been rewarded with money or reputation for it. Aka specialization of labor.

But this means that money has become the unit of measure of that precious ability that society now relies upon. So when money became corrupt, it was only a matter of time before productivity collapsed. And complex systems collapse faster.

With corrupt money, the people who allocate jobs in society are not anymore those who best know how to allocate them to make society thrive, but those who are at the source of the corruption.
