For those who take their spiritual* development seriously, universal ethics are indispensable.
Political ideology is the opposite of that. It's endless words with the same message: "It's fine when we do it."
But just like identifying as a woman just means tou are a man, self-identifying as the good and righteous, who's actions are justifiable by definition, means you are the opposite.
Identifying as a woman is the opposite of being a woman. Identifying as the good and righteous is the opposite of being the good and righteous.
The morality of our actions determines who we are. Who we think we are doesn't determine the morality of our actions.

* personally, I think the term spirituality is terrible and prefer "soul development"
