NOT generating coins doesn't support the network in any meaningful way, as a standard node.
In order to support the network as a node; blocks must be emitted from the node.
Consider the standard view of the Segwit community; of the importance of 'censorship resistance'.
By their own measure; nodes who do not generate blocks under adversity cannot decentralize the network in a way that improves the resistance of censorship. they merely get stuck on the last block their software considered valid.
'supporting' the network by running an archival node with the idea that you will force your ruleset on the network by refusing to change it when the network upgrades ...
