If our soul isn't running your life, our body and mind will.
Which means that instead of good being our highest priority, survival is now our highest directive.
It means that everything we do is based in fear. It means that we will do anything to reduce that fear, get advantages and survive.
It means that we will be perpetrators who self-identify as victims in order to rationalize and justify our unethical and immoral actions.
When the soul runs our life we are humans. When our body and mind run our lives we are animals who self-identify as humans.
Animals that feel so bad about what they do that they hide it from themselves by inventing and believing all kinds of mental narratives and ideologies.

I think you have directionally correct ideas here, but human being are a body and soul unity. Our intellect & will are part of the soul whereas our bodies provide the necessary sense data for us to abstract and build knowledge.
What I think you mean is that we do not want to be a slave to our passions and reach to bring our passions under the rule of our reason...which is precisely what the Christian rule of life is. :)
