Just feels right to me. In the way a RT amplifies greater than a Like on Twitter, I assumed that was the point of a Branch: To amplify.
I think it has to do with how payouts are made. Branches are a more direct interaction while when you like a post/comment it can get chopped up several times. As interactions grow within a post, likes subsequently become less valuable to the receiver.
