um generally when people in our society are cutting people off for "political disagreements" it's like, "disagreements" about whether them or their friends should be allowed to survive

it depends on what "the same thing" is... there are varying degrees. I prefer to disassociate from people who condone paedophilia for example. Call me an extremist.
