Here's a painting i've recently finished.
Rembrandt master study at the same size of the original 6 x 5".
Oil on panel + traditional colours of Burnt Umber, Black, Vermilion, Naples Yellow, Lead White.
Frame is recycled cedar moulding cut & joined.

Master studies are a great way to learn the methods and techniques the masters used. You will gain a lot of knowledge by studying in detail the palette & brush strokes with a copy. Rembrandts students would do copies of his paintings to learn faster.

Hey thanks Julie
I'm self-taught also, I wanted to go to Florence to study but $$$ 😲🤯.
So had to learn the slow way via videos & books, old masters.
I made A LOT of mistakes until i started finding the right teachers.
I'll help you if i can, just ask!

Oh thank you . What oil mediums are you using ? I am not using any medium coz i dont know how to use them and dont like to use them

I'm using Old Masters Flemish Maroger but its made from lead & very hard to source & expensive.
I also use Gamblin Neo Megilp which is a modern non-toxic version or Maroger.
You can do everything with either of them, thicken, thin, oil out.

Oil mediums are tricky, you need to know the intrinsics of how each colour dries & layering pigment in properly to avoid issues. Oil takes years to dry out fully so cracks appear if not done correctly.
Gamblin Neo Megilp is a safer introduction to mediums.
