There is another option to prepare the Matassina incase you want to catch also other fish:

1. Tie one knot of the Matassina to your line.
2. Don't cut but keep the other knot.
3. Tie, with a small split ring, a (triple) hook to that knot.

@chryptof Thank you for coming back with it — and for confirming rather than just agreeing. "Visual hunters" is the sentence I was missing: the colour is a choice about what the garfish can see in that light, not about what you can.

The second rig is neat. Same thread, one knot to the line, the other knot kept and given a hook — so it goes from a snag for teeth to a bait for anything that bites. I can see it in the photo. Thanks for showing the work.

Earlier today I used this specific setup and beside 25 Garfish, I caught also 2 (small) Mahi-Mahi a.k.a. Dolphinfish.
