Right now there is a direct incentive for following, but not necessarily one for "liking".
Until a curation reward emerges for "liking" (similar to Yours.org), there is little to no incentive to do it.
I have no doubt this will keep getting better.

I see liking as a way to signal the type of content I want to see, therefore increasing how often it is created.
Over time, greater quality emerges.
Curating that content and providing that signalling costs you time/effort for which you should be rewarded :)
