A riddle: You only get to save one from death. Which do you choose?
- Your 1st Born
- Your Spouse
- Your Mother
Your mother is the scarcest asset on the list. If scarcity is intrinsically valuable, why would you choose anything other than your mother?

I'd choose my spouse. I think it's a man's job to protect his family. You can't raise a child without a mother.
Your mother can't have children anymore. Imagine saving your mother. She'd think "why sacrifice your family for an old woman"?
So, spouse.
I’m not answering this on the blockchain. My mother will probably read it. 😀
First born and mother both share 50% of your DNA so they are both equally good. I would flip a coin. Spouse shares none of your DNA (hopefully) and is therefore not worth saving.
But you could potentially make more than 2 that have your DNA with that spouse
Anyone who actually has a first born and doesn't answer first born... 😦
Both my spouse and my mother (and me) would be in favour of saving the first born, so it's actually an easy choice.
It’s a trap!
Technically, you can get a new spouse and new children.
Based on scarcity alone, your mother is the only irreplaceable asset, and therefore should be the most valuable unless something other scarcity determines value.
Except that your mother's job is already done: Raising you. If you care about the future and reproducing your genes, you either pick the firstborn or the spouse.
Perhaps firstborn is best, since it actually has your genes, and get a younger new spouse.
So something other than surface scarcity determines what has value?
I wonder how BTC maxis would answer the riddle.
Of course! Just because something is scarce doesn't make it valuable. That's a fallacy. The firstborn is the best investment for the future. The spouse is the best "capital good". She can produce you more babies and costs little compared to the firstborn.
