Remember, when faced with chaos, it is best to focus most on that which you can control, and to keep a weather eye open for that which is coming your way.

It's unlikely that you're in a position to, say, prevent war.

Focus on what you can improve.

Hell, most of you can't even prevent yourselves from ordering an upsized meal at McDonald's.

Twetch ·

That is easier said than done. This world is getting so complex. People don't have the luxury to relax & think.

While those that do have the luxury, don't know how to give it to others.
Or worse they don't care to. It's a global mental health challenge.

Twetch ·

I don't believe relaxation is a prerequisite to purposeful thinking. In fact, I believe purposeful thinking is the prerequisite to leisure time, and is also most often the reason why leisure time is productive for people.

Twetch ·

To be clear, I absolutely agree that this is a difficult practice to apply consistently... But exceedingly valuable, too.

Twetch ·

I'm mostly referring to friends/family. For many It's difficult to calm down to know what you can control. While slowing down too much can make you miss things under our nose.

Control is a balancing act. I'm getting better at it but want to help others

Twetch ·

I think we're stepping out of the realm of control and into that of influence. Influence is in some ways control, but in some ways not. It's a complex issue. Unfortunately, I'm pretty wiped out right now, so probably a conversation best left for later.

Twetch ·

That's fair. I was up late enjoying the heck out of Twetch though. Was getting all deep 🤣

For reference, I have a few schizophrenics in my family as well as other mental health issues. Mental health is top of mind usually. Complex for sure.

Twetch ·

Twetch is pretty cool :)

I don't pretend to know much about mental health issues. I do know a bit about how an individual can direct their own spheres of control, influence, and awareness, though!

Twetch ·

I think that's where dealing with family/friends with mental health issues is rooted. Your sphere of control is a bit shaky if you have a schizophrenic person in your life but your influence and awareness helps you support them mentally and emotionally.

Though going back to the original topic, it can be chaos for you personally making to world overwhelming for everyone involved. Mental health is still slightly taboo to talk about. I want to break that barrier down. So we can tame the chaos.

Twetch ·

*Making the world overwhelming

Twetch ·

People just need less dopamine and cortisol and more oxytocin. So they can relax and think.

Twetch ·

You may be right on every point, and I wouldn't know it! We're stepping well outside my area of expertise. And I think that's actually a big part of why mental health seems taboo to talk about....

Twetch ·

Most people are like me in that they are ignorant of the issues, but in our "I have to (seem like I) know everything" culture, mental health issues as a topic leaves people saying and doing stupid things. Too few people are willing to admit ignorance.

Twetch ·

So, I would suggest that it's not really about mental health issues being taboo, but about the results of people's combined ignorance and arrogance surrounding a complex subject that's the real issue.

Twetch ·

Sadly, everyone feels clueless and hopeless about mental health. I still don't know what to do or how to help. That is why it's so hard. I'm ignorant. I think it's just about talking about it first and foremost. So you can keep that 'weather eye' open.

Twetch ·

Though thanks for chatting. This conversation was a bit out of context of your original post but I appreciate it nonetheless. Interestingly your message applies here. There are things I can control and set a positive influence. It's all we have really.

Twetch ·

It's my pleasure, man! I appreciate valuable conversations regardless of whether or not they stayed on topic.

I look forward to talking more about this and other things with you.
