I would recommend studying Psalm 82. It is very interesting to me when God calls Man ‘God’, he is using the same word he uses to cal himself God.
Theologians explain it away, yet I believe it is key.
I and the Father are One. You and I are One.

We are not gods, but we approach them as time -> infinity. A timeless being wouldn't make the distinction and would say we are gods.
