The controlled (or dumb and useful) opposition like Trump hasn't done anything to change course, in fact when it comes to the core elements of the agenda it is always on board. And this is most likely the way a thoroughly corrupt system works: There is no candidate who can/will change the course of this ship. If there was one he'd be dead before you ever heard his name. But there are A LOT of candidates that generate fake hope that keeps people in line.
