The purpose of government is to enable prosperity through the enforcement of a strict set of rules that define ownership and the responsibility of parties engaging in exchange.

Anyone who is against government is against prosperity.

The problem is when a government oversteps its bounds and inserts itself as the middleman in the delivery model of goods and services.

This is where Kleptocracy arises.

Spot on. Those two Twetches explains it as it is.

So: "The purpose of slavery is to enable prosperity. Therefore anyone who is against slavery ist against prosperity"...

(There are a lot of different opinions on what the purpose (or role) of government shhoud be. For me the main thing it should do is defend property rights.)

I think that's exactly what Brendan was pointing at in his original post. As long as people can interact voluntarily and their rights are protected they will be free.

@1194 I'm not sure I get where you're coming from here. You seem to thing that having a government that defends ownership rights means you are a slave?

Twetch ·

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. Just wanted to point out that I don't agree with your equation of government with prosperity

I suspect we agree that strong property rights and contract law are good for prosperity, and that's what I want. 🙂
