You Are Not the Product
Dear Treechat community, thank you for being on this journey with us, we are just getting started.
In your time here, we have never shown you an ad, because we believe bitcoin enables a new and better model that lets users reward each other for good content and pay for content they want in real time.
The first manifestation of this was [[upvalue]] and it has been really amazing to watch everyone [[spam sats]] back and forth to show appreciation, improvise nft markets, and run bitcoin lotteries.
We've also worked hard to integrate the best open and closed source AI models we can find for chat, image generation, soon video generation, eventually audio, and there will be more tools.
We've offered these for free for the past year to see what kind of cool stuff you would do and there has been a ton of beautiful images generated [[tomint]] both in public and in private.
As you can imagine though, for Treechat to grow, we need a way to sustain ourselves financially. We can't continue to subsidize AI powers, especially with video generation coming out.
Bitcoin makes it easy for us to offer AI capabilities on a per request basis and this is what we are launching in the next few days. We will begin EXPERIMENTING with pricing and want to see and hear from you what works and doesn't work.
Our first experiment:
IMAGE GEN in PUBLIC will remain FREE.
IMAGE GEN in PRIVATE will cost 9 cents per image regardless of model.
VIDEO GEN everywhere, regardless of model, will be 99 cents per video
That's it FOR NOW! We've tried to make it as simple as possible to start, but will iterate based on usage and feedback.
We think bitcoin and AI are a match made in heaven and we hope to demonstrate this to the world with your help.
Unlike other platforms, paying per AI request is just the start. Thanks to upvalue, and the ability to MINT and SELL our creations [[treechat coming soon]] we have an opportunity to earn from using the creative power of AI and to turn our conversations into art, and our community into an economy.

To make Treechat profitable at this early stage and sustainable, I think a minimum upvalue fee of 2,000 satoshis or something like that should be set, and then it can be lowered as the price of BSV rises or more users participate.

I hope that there can be a way to sustain this while keeping it accessible enough so that a Mac user base can be achieved. It’s an awesome platform.
Keeping the platform sustainable is very important for the long term success of the platform. I'm all for the changes! Completely fair to charge for stuff that costs you money. Maybe in the future if AI image generation is possible locally on-device in the browser, we could have free image generation on private for local models

Treechat has brought the fun back to bsv for me personally. Gives me early twetch vibes where every week there's a new update or a new feature that keeps things exciting, and the ai generation has definitely bought out the creative side of people and spurred engagement.
I think not having ads and letting the community value what's important and depict where the growth happens is actually incredibly healthy. Means you're being built by and for the community rather than assuming what users want. I'm definitely looming forward to the mint feature.
I'm in full support of.you, @arghzero and any others that help grow this platform. I'm here for the long haul and am happy to help in any way I can.
TreeChat is fun and good for entertaining. When I publish a picture, when having a coffee. .. and somebody upvalues it with some Satoshis, it makes me to smile, although I know that 100 sat is nearly nothing... But is is like collecting football cards.

I think you should think about a form of monetization. So the cost it's not on you. Even distribute it to users. I have some ideas that I can share. Lets talk.
I think the cost needs to be almost imperceptible… which is why it works so well on BSV…. How about a monthly fee for AI users? IDK if everyone is here just for the AI tools… monetizing the use of those can definitely be an income stream, but as this grows in users, I’m hoping to see it more as a general purpose social board… I thought of a referral-type system for user incentivizing. What ever happens I’m excited about this platform.

I can’t stress enough how amazing what you’ve accomplished is. I’ve been on a few decentralized socials and they’ve all failed. They spoke about creating an add-less economy but never reached it. This is HUGE!
