the problem with humans is that they believe that they have to receive or be given power to become powerful. but the power has always been there.

I disagree, I think people think they need freedom to become powerful. I agree that the power is there regardless, but it's much easier to channel it if you are in freedom
the more powerful you are – the more free you become. and only the truth will set you free. because knowledge (of Self) is power.
so the more aware you are of Self, who you are really (ie. Son of God), the more free and thus more powerful you can become.
