If you are planting an avocado tree, plant it in inorganic soil such as sand or sandy loam. By doing so, you will not get root rot regardless of how much you water it. Put all organic matter above ground. By doing such, your avocado plant will thrive.

Good to know.
Mine never seem to survive a very mild winter... any tips on that? Do I have to keep them longer in a pot inside the house?
Twetch ·
The bigger the pot, the more insulating. If you are in the northern hemisphere, place the pot against a structure with thermal mass, such as a house, on the south of it. Cover it with a shade cloth on frosty nights. As it grows, it becomes tougher.

Thank you.
Will try again and keep that in mind.

Putting plants in sand, depending on where you live, will actually pull the water away from the roots too fast, so you would have to constantly water it. A well draining soil will work just fine.
The harder part is trying to graft them to produce fruit.

I’m growing several avocado plants in 15 gallon containers; some in pure coarse sand and the others in sandy loam (a little bit of clay with a lot of coarse sand). They all have a very thick layer of mulch on top and are thriving; none have dried out.
Twetch ·
Thick layer of mulch is probably preventing that. I didn't get that from the first twetch. Rereading im assuming thats what you meant by organic matter above ground.
But do you know how to graft them? That's how I always fail.
Twetch ·
Most of the tips about planting avocados is like the BTC FUD. That’s why most fail. They tell you to grow in well draining potting mix but when the organic mix starts rotting, it also causes the roots to rot with it. https://youtu.be/rX9pwyFb1rU

Try the APPROACH GRAFTING technique. That is your best bet. :)

I want my fellow BSVers to stay healthy and thrive. If at all possible, grow your own food. Plants such as avocados and citrus are sensitive to a lack of oxygen in the roots. When organic soil starts to decompose, an anaerobic environment develops.

Good first post. Enjoy a boxwood. Welcome to Twetch!

Thank you. I really don’t know how to use Twetch properly yet. I only opened up this account a few hours ago. All I want to say is that BITCOIN (BSV) will truly change the world. Amazing technology!

What’s the trick with the seeds? I’ve never got one to sprout
Twetch ·
I would ...
1. Obtain a long pot and fill it with course sand or sand mixed with a bit of clay,
2. Slightly bury the seed with the pointy end facing up ( and a little bit exposed ).
3. Keep it moist and after a few weeks, it should sprout.

Just an update on my avocado trees... they are thriving! My new way of growing avocado is paying off. Frequent watering give the roots lots of oxygen causing the plants to grow so fast. Inorganic soil is the key with plenty of mulch on top. Will send pics.
Twetch ·
A thriving avocado plant is similar to a thriving BSV ... It’s robust & infinitely scalable protocol (inorganic soil) allows for infinite watering (transactions), feeding (building) and sunlight (good miners) without overpowering it. By contrast, BTC ROTS.

I Live & Love to see all the repetitions and similes in nature and in life!
Would I be able to grow avocados like this in the UK. Right down in the south, close to the sea where it is milder?

Than you for your kind words and inspirational work.
I am now looking forward to healthy, tasty, homegrown avocados!

Provided you use inorganic soil with plenty of mulch on top, then essentially, all you are left with is protecting it from frost. It can be achieved with a greenhouse; you can maintain the plant fairly small (5 ft x 5 ft); open the greenhouse when warm.
Twetch ·
Thank you.
I have two greenhouses.
One for tomatoes. Lower humidity heat.
One for cucumbers. Higher humidity heat,
Would the avocados prefer to hang out with the tomatoes or the cucumbers?
I could always try in both & compare but I think u know.
Twetch ·
I’d put it in the more humid greenhouse; in the biggest pot possible; with the thick layer of mulch at least an inch away from the trunk using a tall barrier. I’d crop the top at about 2 - 3 feet so that it produces 3 or 4 main branches. All the best!

Thank you so much for your time and freely sharing your knowledge.
I have got just the pot & spot needed for this most sacred of tasks. I will be needing a lot more aubergines this year.
