The US was doomed from the start because it replaced rightful land owners with people who spend 99.9% of their time worrying about getting re-elected.

Democracy is simply the illusion of choice.

I see this kinda as the same idea at scale but I might be lost in translation here. Who does a president consider his? however, I agree on the illusion of choice or rather the control of choice.
