Most people consider that separating the church from the state was a good thing.
What they don't realize is that the church was the mainstream media of the time.
The goal was to separate MSM from the state.

Journalism was initially intended to be the 4th branch of government as I understand.
It should be, but no one should give one drop of trust to any media that receives any kind of subsidy from the governement, and we should always strive to encourage independant media financed only by its readers and not advertisers - which government is.
The fundamental problem is that mainstream media is lead by an oligarchy of people who have a political agenda. All we can do is encourage independent media by supporting them in every way including financially.
