it was a one point five hour session, first he worked on my jaw. Having heard I'd broken it - 3 places on the bottom jaw, one on the top - on my third session (over a 6 week period) he said he could do a whole session on the jaw.
He's a myofascial therapist as well, and the work he's already done on the scars on my legs changed the way I walk, so I got curious what could be done with my jaw.

Starting with the left side which was where the breaks were (with plastic gloves), he stuck his fingers in the pit of my mouth, right where the skin meets the jaw... and he pressed quite firmly to separate skin from bone. It felt awesome! I have a scar on my lower lip which he also worked on, lengthening and softening the tissue. When he finished, the left side of my jaw, my face, my head, my whole body.. I could feel a massive difference in the way my body connected with the massage table. A bit wonky.
Particularly with my mouth, one side felt like rubbery, soft and juicy compared to the other which felt a bit... nothing really. I couldn't really feel the right side... like it didn't exist.
what I practiced through this whole experience was letting go. Noticing where I was 'up'tight, where I was holding and I simply let go.. to feel what would happen.
The biggest surprise was in my hands. I allowed them to soften and the backs of the hands released so that my fingers pressed deeper into the table.
I stopped 'holding'.
