One of the main differences between English and German, besides the culture/civilisation, Kultur/Zivilisation dichotomies, which make Spengler so challenging for non-Krauts, is the connotations of the term "dense" ("dicht")
In German the word has much more positive connotation. It is the root of the word "Dichtung" which means "poetry"
In German poem means Gedicht, literally "something that has been made dense"
The teutonic idea of poerty is density: lots of meaning pressed into few words.
The Anglo-Saxon idea of poetry is just a number of words that rhyme, usually written by some upperclass fruit cake.
I exaggerate.
Still.
