I often ask Christians if they love the devil. They are always shocked by that question and immediately jump to the conclusion that I must be a Satanist.

But the question is quite reasonable.

Christians are supposed to love their enemies, and rightly so. That's true spiritual practice. But who is an enemy if not the adversary himself, the devil, Satan, Lucifer or whatever you want to call it?

Love your enemies doesn’t mean serve and worship your enemies. It means bringing love into a world that already has too much fear and hatred, especially to those who need it the most.

And if you look at Satan as a symbol for the body and Lucifer as a symbol for the mind, it becomes even more apparent that it is just as important to love them - as it is not to serve them.

A true Christian loves the devil.

And that's the right thing to do. It means courage, forgiveness, humility.

Being too scared to even look at evil and turning away in fear/hatred is not a virtue, it's cowardice.

And even worse: it makes us blind to our own evil and unable to deal with it.
