Now is a good time to ask if bringing large numbers of fighting age males to Europe for no obvious reason wasn't part of an attempt to create a European identity.

Why create a European identity? There seems to be an agenda aiming at creating super-national entities. The EU, NAFTA, Mercosur etc. Given the inherent drive of power to grow, the end of it all would most likely be a world government. But you can't just dissolve all nation states and create a world government. Intermediate steps are necessary.
Now for the first time Europe is uniting in the face of a common threat/opponent. A European identity is being born before our eyes. Italians, English, French, Germans, Spaniards, poles etc are suddenly united in the resistance against boundless immigration that is largely perceived as an invasion.
Given that such a gigantic agenda needs a lot of time and moves much slower than an observer would probably suspect, this forging of an European identity may just be what bringing traumatized young men to Europe was all about.
Be that the case or not, it seems to be the result and simultaneously the answer to the difficult question how Europe can become an entity with a common story and identity: a common enemy unites people.
