In the novel, you could authorise AIs to spend transactions from your wallet, but only a limited amount/value before authorisation was required again. And anything done using that wallet meant the human holder of the wallet was legally liable, because AIs can’t be liable, stopped or punished, in a meaningful sense.

makes me think of that IBM quote about how a computer can never be held accountable and therefore should never be allowed to make a mgmt decision

Right, I often think that about self-driving cars, but they seem to want to dilute the blame across an entire industry/company, as a tactic. To be fair though, if they really can make it safer, I suppose that’s worth having as a trade-off.
