as long as you don't sign the W9 or tax forms from an employer, it is voluntary, period. I have personally have not paid federal income taxes in over a decade and never got a knock on my door, letter or phone call. I also never got those checks from the gov't a few years back. IMO, as long as you don't flaunt it or promote it, you will be fine, because there is NO LAW for federal income tax. It's been proven by an ex-agent, who ended up in jail on trumped up charges.
