one argument for gun control is that it will defend against a tyrant

the counter argument is that military grade weapons like tanks and airplanes will overwhelm rifles

this is true, but misses the point of how rifles work. they don't defeat the military in military terms but introduce a high friction in terms of propaganda and loss of life both rebel and civilian, as well as introducing very unpopular population control measures like curfews etc. turning the populace against the government

why don't the israeli's carpet bomb palestinians, or the US nuke Iraq, bc there is correctly a high moral cost to these actions, and rifles raise this moral cost
